Text Selection
The first step is to review the material recorded during stage 2. Identify one or two texts, with a combined duration of approximately 6 minutes, including a culturally interesting narrative and perhaps a short dialogue. Listen through the original source text (stage 1), and if the second voice recorder is available, also the respoken and translated versions (stage 2). Transcription and Translation
Using the logbook, note the identifier of the original source text (and if available, the respoken and translated versions, i.e. a total of three identifiers). Carefully transcribe using the standard orthography of the language (if one exists), or using any other systematic transcription system, such as a phonetic alphabet or the orthography of another language. If possible, have another person transcribe the same text, and then cross-check and resolve any inconsistencies. Try not to spend more than an hour transcribing a minute of text. Once the text has been transcribed, translate the text, starting on a new page. As before, try not to spend more than an hour translating a minute of text. KeyboardingCreate a Google Document, and keyboard the transcription, and save it to a file that includes the source identifier, e.g. "G12-C17 transcription". Create another document for the translation, and use the same naming convention "G12-C17 translation". (a) Transcribing; (b) Cross-checking two transcriptions
